Mornington Peninsula Excursion – Sunday April 29 2018
KPS is off to the Mornington Peninsula for the day today.
KPS outing to Mornington Peninsula Sunday April 29th 2018
Before the outing, if possible arrange with other KPS members for some car-pooling as some of the car-park areas are small and in high demand. Please bring with you a completed emergency contact form that you can download from our website. Put the completed form in a sealed envelope with your name on the outside. The envelope will only be opened in case of emergency.
10:00 -Meet at The Mornington Pier -Drive via Freeway and turn-off to Mornington – down the main street and Schnapper Point Drive. You may choose to arrive at sunrise. There are many photographic areas around the foreshore including bathing boxes and red cliffs.
10:30 – Leave Mornington and drive the coast road to Sorrento, stopping as the whim takes you. Suggested stops: Mount Martha Balcombe Creek Estuary Reserve and Boardwalk, McCrae Lighthouse, Rosebud pier, Blairgowrie Marina,
1:00 – Meet in Sorrento for lunch near the War Memorial. Beach Shack for lunch or buy your choice from Sorrento Main Street and eat at the beach near Beach Shack.
2:00 – Time to cross the peninsula from bay to ocean beach. The next destination is Jubilee Point. St Paul’s Road Sorrento leads to a car-park near the ocean beach. A walking track takes you to Jubilee Point (to the left) and St Paul’s beach (to the right). It is easy to spend an hour here with your camera, either on the cliff-top at Jubilee Point or down on St Paul’s Beach.
For those who would like to take a walk along the cliff-top to the right past St Paul’s beach you can walk to Sorrento Back Beach. For those not wanting to walk to Sorrento Back Beach, a short drive can take you there and you may be able to drive some of the walkers back to their cars at Jubilee Point.
3:30 – Set off for home before the traffic makes for a slow trip home. For those wanting to stay for sunset, London Bridge at Portsea provides good subject matter for a photograph.
